Your contributions will help build farm infrastructure, produce locally grown foods and value added products from farm-to-kitchen.
This fall we will be gathering leaves from the 18 acres of trees. Leaves will be mulched and composted into the garden beds to increase soil fertility. (Equipment needed: Leaf Vacuum Mulcher)
We‘ll be sustainably harvesting selected trees for firewood. Removing grapevines when necessary to free up tree canopies. A few hardwoods will be harvested for mushroom production. I’d like to do wood chipped paths around the gardens. (Equipment needed: Wood chipper, chainsaw)
Hardwood logs are supposed to be the best for growing Shiitake, in particular Oak. The wood needs to be harvested while the tree is dormant, and inoculated before the weather warms. I’d like to grow about 100 logs of shiitake. Oysters will grow on softer woods, and would like to start about 100 also. Other varieties of interest include: Lion’s Mane, Maitake, Reishi. Costs here will be for the myceliated spawn, and necessary tools for inoculation.
I plan to go further into making the knf preps & solutions. OHN (oriental herbal nutrient) FPJs (fermented plant juice) and LAB (lactic acid bacteria) are part of a Maintenance Formula I am working on. I would like to do microbial analysis work on the soils and inputs to observe & better understand them. The main costs here will be for ingredients and a microscope with camera.
Fall & Winter crops to be grown in the greenhouse include: broccoli, peas, kale, collards, lettuces, spinach, arugula, chard & a few others. Compost is needed for the greenhouse beds. Straw bales will be used for added warmth. Seeds will be purchased for thsese crops.
I have a 6 x 10 trailer from a salvaged camper that I would like to repurpose as a tiny farm kitchen. This would be used as a wash station for produce and to prepare veggie orders.
